Metallica’s 1991 masterpiece ‘The Black Album’ has cemented itself as the bands seminal work. Following on from ‘…And Justice For All’, the Black Album confirmed Metallica’s transition from thrash metal to the more rounded and distinct sound the band have become associated with. The composition is masterful, and the production sounds fresh even now, some 30 years on from its release. It contains arguably the band’s greatest hit ‘Enter Sandman’, as well as the deeply retrospective ‘Nothing Else Matters’. It is rightfully regarded as a modern classic, and regularly features in top album lists of all time. It transcends its genre, and deserves its place in every music lovers collection.
